Ethical and legal issues in Generative AI
- study
Abstract
The seminar, led by Professor Marcello Guarini (University of Windsor, Canada), is open to all students of CEILS and GLAM students, and it offers an essential space for reflection on the ethical, legal, and philosophical challenges posed by generative AI. It addresses issues of emotional and psychological harm arising from interactions with chatbots, as well as questions of responsibility and regulation within current legal frameworks such as the EU AI Act.
The discussion also engages with key concepts such as agency and patienthood in relation to artificial systems, highlighting how conceptual metaphors shape legal reasoning and governance. By focusing on the vulnerability of human experience as it is increasingly mediated by chatbot technologies, the seminar provides a crucial opportunity for future jurists and scholars to critically engage with the evolving relationship between law, technology, and human fragility.
