Winter School in Philosophy Novacella: 8-12 febbraio 2027 - Registration is open

A selection based on qualifications is announced for participation in the third edition of the Winter School "Philosophical Insights into the Italian Traditions", entitled Vulnerable bodies. Concepts and figures of bodily vulnerability in the Italian and European Traditions.

The Winter School is organized by the Department of Letters and Philosophy, University of Trento in collaboration with KU Leuven and ENS Lyon, and is promoted in the framework of the Piano Strategico e di Miglioramento 2022-27 and the Progetto di Eccellenza 2023-27.

The Winter School will take place in Varna (BZ) from February 8th to 12th, 2027, and is open to master's and doctoral students, as well as early-career researchers in philosophy, history, and literature. Its goal is to gather a community of international students interested in exploring topics related to Italian culture in preparation for their theses, dissertations, or research projects. The school will provide lectures and seminar discussions of ongoing projects, led by a group of internationally renowned professors, in the enchanting setting of Novacella Abbey. After the inaugural lecture on Monday afternoon, each morning will feature two lectures, each followed by a discussion session. The afternoons will be dedicated to the presentation of papers by the participants; a discussion led by expert professors follows. After the welcome session on Monday, each day will have a chronological focus: Tuesday: medieval age; Wednesday: early modern age (16th-17th century); Thursday: early modern age (18th-19th century); Friday: contemporary age (20th century). This year, speakers of the Winter School include Tomaso Montanari (Siena), Stéphanie Lanfranchi (ENS Lyon), Andrea Robiglio (KU Leuven), and Olivia Guaraldo (Verona), in addition to UniTrento scholars including Michele Nicoletti, Tiziana Faitini, Alessandro Palazzo, Salvatore Carannante. In line with the international inspiration of the project, classes and presentations can be conducted in English, Italian, French, German, or Spanish. In the case of lectures and presentations in languages other than English, the organization will provide an English translation of the lecture text to be shared with the participants. This is to ensure inclusivity and facilitate the widest possible accessibility to the initiative. Similarly, participants who present their papers in one of the indicated languages other than English are required to provide an English translation of the text to the organization before the start of the school in order to share it with the participants.

The costs - including registration fee, full-board accommodation for 4 nights/5 days (in single or double rooms, according to availability), and the guided visit to the Abbey - are as follows:
