The protection and promotion of patentable inventions

The session offers a clear and practical overview of the world of patenting, guiding participants from the definition of a patent and its utility right through to the correct structure to adopt. The requirements for patentability are examined in depth, with particular attention paid to novelty and inventive step, and a number of practical examples are provided in relation to the latter. The session then addresses issues relating to pre-disclosure and the disclosure of the invention during the period of confidentiality, and outlines the preliminary searches required to assess patentability and to avoid the risk of infringement (FTO). Finally, the various patenting procedures (Italian, European and international – PCT) are covered, and the protection of software through patenting is discussed.

Participation by the University's administrative and technical staff (PTA) will be certified by the Secretariat of the Directorate of Research Services and Valorization in collaboration with the Training and Continuing Professional Development Office. The hours of attendance will be recorded and added to the training curriculum of the participants who have attended at least 70% of the course.
