Abstract

How can imaginaries of Lunar and Mars exploration both widen the scope of possible futures and shut down alternative scenarios and alternative futures? What kind of
future(s) are being opened up or closed down in this shift from the public to the private sector? Who is setting the tone and agenda for the future, and what does that
look like? What does the imaginary of the democratisation of space mean?

Michael Godhe is Associate Professor in Culture and Media Production. He currently works at the Department of Culture and Society (IKOS), Campus Norrköping at Linköping University. Michael does research in History of Science and Ideas, Cultural History, Science Fiction Studies and Critical Future Studies (CFS). His research interests concern representations of the future. His teaching concerns the interplay between technology and culture and cuts across subjects such as the culture and media history of robots, androids and AI to Critical Future Studies.
