The Department of Industrial Engineering presents a series of thematic seminars dedicated to "Architectures of Intelligent Transportation Systems".

From May 7th to May 26th, leading experts will share their knowledge on string stability, advanced simulation, V2X communication, and the state of the art of autonomous vehicles. An unmissable opportunity to delve into the technologies that are transforming the way we travel.

Speaker: Basilio Lenzo – Associate Professor, University of Padova

This seminar introduces the fundamental principles of vehicle dynamics and explores advanced methods for analysing vehicle stability. Particular attention will be given to phase-plane analysis, equilibria, and the conditions leading to stable or unstable behaviours, including drifting.

The session will also cover Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems, focusing on intervention criteria and real-world implementation. Finally, practical applications will be presented, including autonomous drifting control strategies based on torque vectoring.

Participants will gain insight into how advanced control algorithms are applied to improve both vehicle safety and performance.

Speaker

Basilio Lenzo is Associate Professor in Vehicle Dynamics and Control at the University of Padova. His research focuses on vehicle dynamics, control systems, and advanced automotive technologies, combining theoretical modelling with experimental validation. He has held academic positions in the UK and Italy and has been a visiting researcher at institutions including Stanford University and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
