Abstract

This roundtable brings together diverse perspectives on Alternative Food Networks (AFNs) to critically examine their transformative potential across different socio-political and geographical contexts. Speakers Carla Galan Guevara, Francesco Vittori, Franca Zadra, and Mattia Andreola will present their research on AFNs in both the Global North and South, exploring themes such as power dynamics, socio-ecological constraints, contradictions within these alternatives, and the political trajectories and methodologies used to drive agroecological change.
Colin Sage will act as respondent, facilitating a discussion on the challenges and opportunities AFNs face in fostering systemic change.
Through this exchange, the roundtable aims to bridge regional and theoretical perspectives, questioning the extent to which AFNs genuinely offer pathways beyond dominant food systems.
