There are many similarities between the languages of Games and Mathematics: for example, both have well-defined rules that must be analyzed and understood in order to find a winning strategy. Throughout history, there have been several intersections between these two worlds, and many board games have been invented by mathematicians: just think of the game Hex, invented by Piet Hein and John Nash around 1942; moreover, more recently, games like GO or Chess have inspired the development of new Artificial Intelligences models.
Beyond the Usual Playing is a series of four events, hosted by the BUP - Povo University Library, where players will have the opportunity to challenge each other in board games, testing their strategic and problem-solving skills, and to discover the mathematical concepts hidden behind the chosen games thanks to the mediation of mathematicians.
The meetings will take place in Italian language. English language support will be available as well during the gaming session.
