Speaker: Augusto M. S. Alonso – University of São Paulo, Brazil

This seminar will outline the research activities conducted by the Laboratory of Alternative Sources and Power Processing (LAFAPE) at the University of São Paulo (USP/ Brazil), demonstrating its broad reach into microgrid energy management and the control of power electronic converters for modern low-voltage grids and vehicle electrification.

In particular, the outcomes of a São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) funded project will be presented, alongside a discussion on the development of a flexible experimental platform.

The findings demonstrate that while both unidirectional and bidirectional electric vehicle charging systems amplify supraharmonic distortions in low-voltage grids, they can also function as grid-friendly devices to improve power quality and strengthen overall power grid reliability.

Speaker:

Augusto Matheus dos Santos Alonso is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC), University of São Paulo, Brazil. His research focuses on power electronics, converter control and microgrid energy management, with applications in electric mobility. He investigates solutions for integrating electric vehicle charging systems into distribution grids to improve power quality and grid reliability.
