Navigating governance tensions in alternative food networks through a hybrid governance approach

Abstract
This presentation will reflect on the governance dynamics in transitions towards alternative food systems and presents a combined framework conceptualising alternative food networks (AFNs) as evolving in a hybrid sector, which generates governance tensions. The framework is then applied to the case study of ‘La Ceinture Aliment-Terre Liégeoise’ (CATL) in Liège, Belgium, an alternative food network active for more than 10 years.
The presentation will also shed light on how the governance dynamics shape the development of the CATL as an AFN and identify strategies used to cope with governance tensions, to enable further upscaling.
