Liability, Health & Social Change
Meeting with Professor Lara Khoury, McGill University, Montreal, Canada

The purpose of this invitation-only seminar, held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Trento under the supervision of Professor Umberto Izzo, is to provide Professor Lara Khoury with the opportunity to present to the invited scholars the prospect of participating in and contributing to a multi-year research project that is part of a Canada Research Chair initiative awarded to Professor Khoury.
As Professor Khoury will explain during the seminar in dialogue with the scholars invited to the event, the project explores the global phenomenon of the judicialization of health and environmental governance - a trend marked by the rising use of courts being called by members of society, through civil liability class actions, to address issues traditionally managed by public authorities, through liability class actions.
It aims to assess the transformative social impact of this phenomenon through a transdisciplinary lens in four key areas: public health crises, environmental protection and the fight against climate change; systemic issues affecting healthcare safety, and biomedical innovation.
