Academic Writing and Style Proofreading for Publication

Abstract:

The seminar introduces students to the academic editorial and publishing environment they will encounter as EAL (English as an Additional Language) writers. It begins by examining the changes and challenges they are likely to face, then highlights common pitfalls and effective strategies for preparing and submitting academic work. The role of academic style in the peer review and editorial decision-making processes is also discussed. Next, the seminar explores key professional figures, and more specifically revisors, copyeditors, and proofreaders, to clarify their areas of expertise and the ways each can support the writing and editing process. This section concludes with a reflection of the growing use of AI in academic writing and proofreading, along with the benefits and risks it poses.
