Abstract:
Transition to parenthood is a major life event that is associated with neurobiological, hormonal, and psychological changes that support adaptation to the demands of taking care of a child. In this talk I focus on research investigating whether and how the processing of children’s emotion signals changes as a function of caregiving experience. I will also include research on topics that have received less attention in current parenting research, such as parenting development in fathers and the influence of parity and extended parenting experience on processing children’s social and emotion signals.
