Abstract

The seminar will review Statistical Mechanics techniques proposed to describe features of 2D fluids, focusing on the comparison between Gaussian and Poissonian (point) ensembles. Much is known in the positive temperature regime thanks to an isomorphism between the 2D Coulomb gas and sine-Gordon Euclidean QFT. On the other hand, Onsager's negative temperature proposal for describing aggregation phenomena still presents challenging open questions.
