SuXr: University Students for Refugees

SuXr, the University Students for Refugees project, a training course that the University launched in the academic year 2015/2016, aims to raise awareness and stimulate a critical reflection on forced migrations, to inform on the issue while inviting the student community to participate in volunteering initiatives - through a learning by doing approach.
Now in its 10th year, SuXr offers University students an interdisciplinary learning opportunity on forced migration and on the issues deriving from integration processes, topics that are increasingly important for active citizenship and that can involve a variety of areas of study and different skills.
The training experience
The participants will take part in 8 training sessions of 2.5 hours each, on Fridays from 14:30 to 17:00.
The lectures will be given mostly by University professors from different Departments and Centres and will feature testimonies from representatives of third sector organizations. After the training part, the participants will have the opportunity to volunteer at one of the associations and organizations recognised by the University.
The event is free of charge and the meetings will be held in Italian.
The volunteer experience
On 12 December, from 14:30 to 17:00, a meeting will be held at Palazzo Prodi to present the associations that will host volunteers. At the end of the training, the participants can make contact with the organizations they are more interested in to start the volunteering experience (75 hours to be volunteered by 31 December 2026). The activities will be different from one association to another.
At the end of the training, participants will obtain a certificate of participation based on the hours volunteered and the activities carried out. Credits (ECTS) are recognized by individual Departments and Centers based on their procedures, and they may count as an internship, as elective credits, or as supernumerary credits. The award of credits through the participation in the SuXr project can only take place once in the university career.
