Queer demography: Emerging evidence on the LGBTQ+ population
- equità e diversità
Abstract
LGBTQIA* people are growing in number in recent cohorts, as it is increasing their visibility and recognition within Western societies. These shifts have prompted rising scholarly interest in the demographic dynamics of this group. This seminar provides an overview of queer demography, presenting recent findings on LGBTQIA* population trends and social stratification. It highlights how sexual orientation functions as a stratification factor and outlines why studying LGBTQIA* populations is crucial for understanding contemporary social change. Particular attention will be given to inequalities experienced by LGBTQIA* people in labour market outcomes, partnership formation, mental health, and education.
