Storytelling for Scientists: Essential Skills for Good Presentations and Writing
This workshop is organized by the UniTrento Doctoral Programme in Psychology and Cognitive Science (PsyCogS) within the Dipartimento di Eccellenza program.
Abstract
Scientific talks and papers often fail to engage, not because of their content, but because of how the story is told. This course helps you make your research ideas and results more compelling by applying storytelling principles. Drawing on evidence that stories capture attention and enhance understanding, we will explore how to create tension, curiosity, and flow in your scientific communication. Participants will learn how to structure research narratives that engage audiences across formats—from papers and conference talks to grant proposals and public outreach.
Regularly offered at the University of Groningen, this workshop is designed for early-career researchers across all areas of psychology who are interested in improving their scientific communication skills.
Programme
The workshop is structured in two parts:
- Morning session (10:00–13:00): a lecture-based introduction
- Afternoon session (14:00–16:00): a hands-on, interactive workshop to apply what has been learned
You are strongly encouraged to attend to enhance your presentation and writing skills.
Please indicate in your registration form whether you will participate in both sessions or only one of them.
