This online seminar, led by Prof. Marcello Montanino from the University of Napoli, will focus on the critical topic of string stability in car-following models. We will begin by exploring the new requirements in EU type-approval of automated vehicles, a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape that underscores the fundamental importance of understanding the stability of autonomous vehicle platoons.
Following this, we will delve into the string stability: definitions and theoretical background, providing the necessary conceptual foundations for tackling more advanced analyses. The seminar will then proceed with a detailed examination through linear analysis, an essential tool for understanding the behavior of models under small perturbations. Finally, we will explore nonlinear analysis and its relationship with rear-end collisions, highlighting how the stability of a vehicle string directly impacts road safety.
