The LIMS-Interdepartmental Laboratory Memory and Society of the University of Trento, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trento and the Alzheimer Center of Trento, close to World’s Alzheimer Day (September 21), presents the scientific-cultural event “(Dis-)functions of memory. Interdisciplinary approaches”, organized by Giorgia Proietti (LIMS – University of Trento) and Thomas van de Putte (King’s College London).
Special guest: Giovanni Dallapé (Trento) singer-songwriter and music therapist
10am-6pm Workshop '(Dis-)functions of memory. Multidisciplinary views' (Piscopia Hall)
6-8 pm Show 'Attraverso i tuoi occhi' by and with Giovanni Dallapé (Auditorium)
Description
The workshop intends to explore dysfunctions and disorders of memory at the intersection of medicine, literature, history and psychology, in a broad diachronic perspective, which juxtaposes and compares ancient and modern. The presentations will be partly in Italian, partly in English.
At the end of the scientific interventions, the initiative continues in the Auditorium of Palazzo Prodi and opens to the public. Giorgia Contini, director of the Centro Diurno Alzheimer APSP Civica di Trento, will briefly present the services of the facility, while Maria Serena Zendri, contact for the Project ‘Comunità amiche delle persone con demenza’ at the Municipality of Trento, will illustrate the ongoing public initiatives aimed at raising awareness and disseminating knowledge of the disease in society, starting with young people, both in schools and, thanks to the collaboration with the LIMS, within the University. This will be followed by a narrative and musical performance by Giovanni Dallapé, a Trentino singer-songwriter and music therapist at the Alzheimer center itself: the performance, already proposed successfully in the area on several occasions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgkfGYrDKBA), will show the incredible power of music to reactivate cultural memory, even when biological memory is defective or absent.
The organizers
Giorgia Proietti is a Researcher in Greek History and Memory Studies at the Department of Humanities of the University of Trento, where she conceived and helped establish the LIMS – Interdepartmental Laboratory Memory and Society, which she coordinates. Giorgia and Thomas have been collaborating for several years in the organization of scientific and cultural initiatives on memory starting from multi- and inter-disciplinary perspectives.
