These topics are relevant across different disciplines and provide a foundation for more specific in-depth studies in various sectors. The course will be held in English.
Module 1 - The General Principles of Open Science

This module is dedicated to the theoretical and ethical foundations of the open science movement, in the context of the universities’ growing commitment to the Third Mission.
- A brief history of the open science movement;
- intellectual property and open science;
- the dimensions of open science in declarations and regulations;
- the challenges in university research.
Module 2 - Publishing in Open Access

This module is dedicated to open access and how it relates to publications, focusing particularly on the requirements of European research projects and the ways to comply with them while respecting copyright law.
- The colours of open access;
- diamond open access;
- the University of Trento Publishing and other resources;
- gold open access and transformative agreements;
- copyright and Creative Commons licenses.
Module 3 - The IRIS Institutional Repository for Publications and Doctoral Theses

This module is dedicated to the procedure of uploading publications and doctoral theses, also in open access, to the IRIS institutional repository.
- The functions of IRIS institutional repository;
- the procedure of uploading a product;
- the procedure of uploading a doctoral thesis.
Module 4 - Responsible Research Data Management

The module is dedicated to the responsible research data management, with particular attention to regulations, university guidelines and the requirements of Horizon Europe.
- Scientific research and its results;
- the phases of research data management;
- normative aspects (privacy, intellectual property, open data);
- University guidelines;
- Horizon Europe requirements in terms of data and other research results.
Module 5 - Data Management Plan

Building on Module 4, this module is dedicated to the more operational aspects of responsible research data management, with a specific focus on the FAIR principles and the Data Management Plan.
- The role of the data steward in supporting researchers;
- the FAIR principles, or how to make data and other research outputs findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable;
- the data management plan (DMP) and the University’s template;
- the support units within the University.
