What challenges does generative artificial intelligence pose in research contexts? How can it be used in compliance with Research Integrity principles? Are there relevant regulations and standards?

The workshop aims to analyse these issues, as well as the experiences and questions of the university community, through a practical and interactive approach, including practical cases that will allow participants to discuss the potentials, risks, ethical dilemmas, and legal issues associated with the use of generative AI across all phases of research.

A dedicated session will examine the issues arising from these cases in light of the existing regulatory framework, with particular attention to the University of Trento’s guidelines, and the legal and regulatory context at national, European, and international levels.
Speakers:

  • Carlo Casonato, full professor of Comparative Constitutional Law, Jean Monnet Chair on AI and Law, INTEGRA Project co-leader and Rector’s delegate for the Research Ethics Committee, University of Trento; Member of the CNR Research Ethics and Integrity Committee
  • Marta Tomasi, Associate Professor of Comparative Constitutional Law, lecturer in Law and Ethics for AI, member of the INTEGRA Project, University of Trento
  • Marta Fasan, Assistant professor in comparative public law, lecturer in Law and Ethics for AI, University of Trento

The workshop will be held in English. The workshop is especially intended for the University’s PhD candidates, but is also open to researchers and to the wider UniTrento academic community.
