Place names of Historical Linguistic Minorities in Italy

To participate online registration is required: click here to register by June 30th, 12:00 a.m.
The conference aims to open a scientific reflection on the status of place names of the country's historical linguistic minorities, in the light of Law no. 482 of 15 December 1999 and Presidential Decree no. 345 of 2 May 2001.
The meeting will be divided into two working sessions and two round tables and will aim to outline the topic from a geographical point of view, with necessary interdisciplinary contributions of a linguistic, anthropological and legal nature.
More specifically, the speeches of the various scholars from various Italian and foreign Universities will attempt to bring out the current geographical specificities of those territories in which the regulations for the protection of the language and culture of the Albanian, Catalan, Germanic, Greek, Slovenian, Croatian and French, Franco-Provençal, Friulian, Ladin, Occitan and Sardinian speaking populations are active.
The general work programme includes
- sessions with invited contributions/reports on the individual regional minorities of Italy;
- a round-table discussion with international native speakers (University of Barcelona, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, etc....) who will bring their point of view on the minority language of their competence;
- another dialogue moment that opens a focus specifically on the Alpine territories with the participation of the directors of cultural institutes and associations of minority languages in the area and public administration officials;
- an excursion into the area by identifying a minority language destination in the region (Altipiani Cimbri Trentini).
There will be broad participation of geographers but also linguists and anthropologists, with a view to an interdisciplinary openness on the subject, as well as all the directors of the minority cultural institutes of the TAA region (Ladin, Cimbrian, Mocheni).
